Staff from the hospital’s Cardiac Centre spent the day providing health screening and education on heart health. The SPAR Women’s 10km race attracts thousands of women each year, ranging from serious athletes to social runners, walkers and those who take part just for the camaraderie of the day. Hospital marketing manager, Mariann Theron commented that, “Although many of these women are health conscious and exercise regularly, they may still have high blood pressure without showing symptoms.

Testing can highlight potential problems so that those affected can obtain treatment and make the necessary lifestyle adjustments.”

Ethekwini Hospital’s cardiac centre gave their full support to the Women’s Race as a way of promoting regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle. “Spending a morning exercising, having fun with friends and leaving your worries behind is a recipe for good heart health. We hope that today’s runner will make exercise part of their regular routine and not just an annual event.” said Theron.
