Ethekwini Hospital currently has a six station dialysis unit (Ethekwini Kidney & Dialysis Centre) with a further nine stations to be opened during 2009. We offer chronic dialysis, acute dialysis, continuous dialysis, plasma exchange, and renal transplant workup. Our ultra-modern haemodialysis machines offer continuous monitoring and feedback to technicians which allows them to adjust the concentration of the dialysate and change ph, temperature and rate of filtration to suit the individual patient profile. |

Nephrology in South Africa Hypertension, Diabetes and HIV are the most common causes of kidney failure worldwide. As we see increases in all of these diseases, the rate of kidney failure also rises. Treatment for kidney failure includes dialysis or renal transplant. Dialysis can replace part of the function of your kidneys. Diet, medications, and fluid limits are often needed as well. Your diet, fluids, and the number of medications you need will depend on which treatment you choose.
